Cradle Mountain
The Overland Track, a 65km hiking trail traversing the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage area from Cradle Mountain to Lake St. Clair. The scenery is incredible and always changing. Although having a reputation for unpredictable weather and rugged terrain, the actual hike was easier than I expected. Two mates and I completed the route comfortably in late Autumn over 7 days, carrying a 17kg pack, waking about 4hrs each day with plenty of time for side excursions along the way. The trail is well maintained and marked due to its popularity, and there are huts to stay in overnight. There’s a lot to be said for slow wandering across wild landscapes on foot. Two feet and a heartbeat are just the right tools for filtering out noise and coming back to centre. I highly recommend this walk to anyone up for the challenge.
